The Cottage

The Cottage

Noble’s Cottage was built in 2003 as a group of four cottages on a historic piece of land that used to be used for smoking and preserving the locally caught fish and shellfish. Indeed, Noble’s Cottage is one of four cottages collectively known as the “Old Smoke Houses”. The Old Smoke Houses won an architectural award in 2004 after they were built for the way in which they sympathetically fitted into the existing landscape and existing cottages in Henrietta Street. Indeed, if you view them today from Whitby Pier most people would not know the Old Smoke Houses haven’t always existed in Whitby.

In November 2017 it was purchased by David and Rachel. David was born in Whitby and has always admired the Old Smoke Houses and their unrivalled views over Whitby Harbour. It took many years for Noble’s Cottage to come on the market but when it did a new era for what is considered to be one of most beautiful holiday cottages in Whitby begun.

Noble’s cottage is ideal for a weekends away, three or four day short breaks and week or fortnight holidays. The most amazing features of Noble’s Cottage are its prime location and beautiful views over Whitby Harbour and it’s picturesque surroundings on cobbled Henrietta Street, the famous 199 steps and Whitby Abbey. Noble’s Cottage is a three story cottage and sleeps up to 7 people in three bedrooms and it has 3 bathrooms. The cottage is equipped with BT Broadband and Wi-Fi which has been measured running at 46mbps. Both Smart TV’s can run your existing Amazon Prime and Netflix accounts. The snug also has a Microsoft Xbox for your family’s enjoyment. Each bedroom also has its own hair dryer.

When you stay in Noble’s Cottage David and Rachel will have organised a special welcome gift pack for you from Botham’s, Whitby’s premier bakers, to be waiting for you along with a special bottle of wine. Come in, sit down by the fire and relax. Essentials such as fresh bread, milk, butter, tea and coffee and sugar will also await you.

On the ground floor there is a living room with a gas fire, 43” Smart TV and Blu-Ray DVD Player. There are three sofas to relax on too. Next to the living room is the kitchen diner ideal for enjoying some meals in. The kitchen is well equipped with gas hob, electric oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, coffee machine and washer/dryer. Next to the rear entrance porch is the downstairs toilet.

A double bedroom with a king size bed and a twin bedroom are situated on the middle floor. There is also a separate living room/snug equipped with a 43” Smart TV, Blu-Ray DVD Player and a Microsoft XBox.

The top floor consists of the master bedroom with a super king bed and a separate bathroom equipped with a toilet and shower.

The front of Noble’s Cottage leads directly onto cobbled Henrietta Street. No parking is allowed on Henrietta Street.

The archway of Noble’s Cottage leads to the rear of the cottage where this is room enough for a maximum of one small or medium sized car only, no larger than VW Golf or Audi A3, which must be parked as outlined in the Welcome Pack. Any larger cars or additional cars can be parked in the local town car parks just off Church Street about 750m away from Noble’s Cottage.

We have recently fitted a 32amp Type 2 Electric Vehicle charging point to the Cottage which is available at an additional charge for the duration for your visit.

In 2017 this is what the Whitby Gazette had to say about Noble’s Cottage when it came up for sale:

“A holiday cottage in Whitby is guaranteed to make your friends and family envious, but we think that Noble’s Cottage, set at the end of Henrietta Street is probably one of the ultimate holiday cottages on the East side of town.

Built on the site of Nobles old smokehouse in 2003, the sympathetic, award winning design really does offer something rather special. It very cleverly manages to marry up all the charm of a cottage, which makes such a difference to those lucky enough to enjoy it, with all the practicalities of a modern house with three bath/shower rooms and space to park a car at the rear.

Whilst the views over the harbour and beyond across Sandsend Bay to the Ness are simply fabulous and almost unrivalled, the abundance of accommodation it offers may also surprise you. There are four double bedrooms, the current owners use the fourth as a smaller second sitting room on the first floor, including the huge family bedroom and shower room on the top floor as well as the ground floor sitting room, with an impressive brick fireplace and inset cast iron stove, the kitchen diner to the rear and a cloakroom.

When you add to this the beamed ceilings, exposed woodwork and wooden doors with their black iron Suffolk latches you can really see the care and attention to detail that has gone into the cottage.

The almost immediate access to the East pier and Saltwick Bay as well as Tate Hill Sands make this a fabulous location for the whole family to enjoy, as does the easy access to the local amenities. This cottage has so much else to talk about we have only mentioned the views briefly.

To appreciate them you need to come and see them for yourself.”
